My first backpacking trip of 2016: Desolation Wilderness in search of Lake Aloha. It was a lovely, big group of us, and mostly beginners. In theory, it should have been an easy trek; it was at first. After a few miles in, we encountered much more snow than I had anticipated. Quite frankly, more snow than any of us anticipated; about four feet deep. The snow made the hike more grueling than it should have been, and we quickly lost sight of the trail to Lake Aloha. We retired to an open space about a mile away from our destination, fearing exhaustion and no potential water source. We set up camp and proceeded to enjoy each other's company until morning when we would have to hike back to our cars. Here are a few of my favorite photos I shot from the trip. The great outdoors always lends itself to helping me flex my photography muscles, and I am grateful for that.
